Xi Jinping Meets with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev
2025-06-17 20:55

On the morning of June 17, 2025 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana.

President Xi Jinping noted that last year, he and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held meetings in Beijing and Astana respectively, and made strategic plans for the development of bilateral relations. China-Uzbekistan cooperation has been carried out across the board and with strong momentum. China is ready to align development strategies and experience sharing in governance with Uzbekistan, carry out more mutually beneficial cooperation projects to boost the development of both countries, and join hands to build a more substantive and dynamic China-Uzbekistan community with a shared future.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Uzbekistan should introduce more measures for trade liberalization and facilitation, expand the scale of bilateral trade and investment, and advance the high-quality construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway to foster a multidimensional connectivity network. The two sides should scale up practical cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, new energy, smart agriculture, and public health. Both sides should actively promote the establishment of cultural centers in each other's countries, ensure the success of the second Forum on Cooperation between 100 Universities, continuously strengthen cooperation in poverty reduction, and enhance people-to-people ties. The two sides should continue to deepen law enforcement and security cooperation, jointly combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and work hand in hand to address new threats and challenges, so as to safeguard regional peace and stability. Both countries should enhance coordination on multilateral platforms such as the China-Central Asia mechanism and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, jointly uphold international fairness and justice, and safeguard the global economic and trade order.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that President Xi Jinping is an outstanding statesman in the world, who has led China in implementing highly effective domestic and foreign policies, achieving remarkable results in economic and social development. China's economy has become a key engine of the global economy. No major issue in today's world can be resolved without China's efforts. He described Uzbekistan and China as close as brothers, adding that frequent exchanges at all levels and robust cooperation in various fields have brought bilateral relations to the highest level in history. Uzbekistan cherishes its friendly relations with China and appreciates China's long-standing, selfless support for Uzbekistan's economic and social development. Uzbekistan will remain firm in its commitment to the one-China principle. Uzbekistan is willing to strengthen exchanges with China on governance experience, and learn from China's successful experience in poverty alleviation. Uzbekistan also seeks to expand the scale of trade and investment, strengthen cooperation in high and new technology, connectivity, agriculture, green energy and other sectors, and promote the high-quality development of bilateral relations. Uzbekistan is ready to strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation with China and resolutely combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism. The Uzbek side highly appreciates the three major global initiatives put forth by President Xi Jinping, which carry significant relevance in today's world. Uzbekistan is willing to work closely with China to implement these initiatives, jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, safeguard international fairness and justice, and advance the cause of progress in world peace and development.

The two heads of state exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East. Xi Jinping stated that Israel's military action against Iran has sharply escalated tensions in the Middle East, and China is deeply concerned about this. China opposes any actions that infringe upon the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of other countries. Military conflict is not the way to solve problems, and the escalation of regional situations is not in the common interests of the international community. All parties should work to de-escalate the conflict as soon as possible and avoid further escalation of the tensions. China is ready to work with all parties to play a constructive role in restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.

After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the announcement and signing of a bilateral protocol regarding Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and others were present at the above events.
