On April 25, 2015, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences over the disastrous earthquake striking Nepal on the same day. The full text of the message of condolences reads as follows:

I am shocked to learn of the powerful earthquake striking your country, causing heavy casualties and property losses. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, as well as in my own name, I would like to extend deep condolences to the victims in the earthquake, and offer sincere solicitude to the bereaved families and the injured.

I believe that under the leadership of Mr. President and the Nepalese government, the Nepalese people will surely work together to conquer the disaster. The Chinese people firmly stand together with the Nepalese people in this urgent moment, and the Chinese side is willing to provide all the necessary assistance for disaster relief for the Nepalese side.
