Wang Yi Meets with Iranian Vice President and Head of AEOI Ali-Akbar Salehi

On August 27, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with visiting Iranian Vice President and Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi.

Ali-Akbar Salehi conveyed President Hassan Rouhani's greetings and his message of valuing Iran-China relations to President Xi Jinping, and expressed that Iran firmly supports the initiative of the Silk Road Economic Belt put forward by President Xi Jinping and the construction of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and hopes to expand practical cooperation in all areas with China. He thanked China's important role in reaching the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue and hoped China continue to exert influence for the smooth implementation of the agreement.

Wang Yi asked Ali-Akbar Salehi to convey greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Hassan Rouhani and appreciated Iran's support for the joint construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt. Wang Yi stressed that China always pays attention to China-Iran relations and will connect the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt with Iran's development strategy and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with Iran in such sectors as traditional energy, international production capacity and civil use of nuclear energy.

Wang Yi said that reaching the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue is a joint effort of all parties. The agreement safeguards the international nuclear non-proliferation mechanism as well as Iran's rights to peacefully utilize nuclear power, and creates better conditions for the development of China-Iran relations. China will keep close communication and cooperation with Iran on comprehensively implementing the agreement and continue its positive and constructive role on issues including the modification of Arak heavy water reactor.
