Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the World Summit on the Information Society was held in Tehran

The Asia-Pacific Regional preparatory meeting for the World Summit on the Information Society was held in Tehran, capital city of the Islamic Republic of Iran from May 31 to June 2, 2005. Around 40 countries sent national delegations to this conference. Chinese delegation was consisted of representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Information Industry. Chinese Ambassador to Iran, H.E. Mr. Liu Zhentang acted as head of the delegation. The meeting was held in preparation for the upcoming World Summit of the Information Society due in Tunisia in November this year, and was co-sponsored by Iranian Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

The opening ceremony was chaired by H.E. Mr. Motamedi, Iranian Minister of Information and Communication Technology. President of Iran, H.E. Mr. Khatami sent a congratulation message to the conference. At the end of the meeting, the Tehran Declaration on Building the Information Society in Asia and the Pacific was passed.
