After five years, the BRICS cooperation has once again ushered in the "China Year" and China has successfully held over 70 meetings and events so far this year, covering political, security, economic, trade, financial, people-to-people and cultural fields, as well as sustainable development and public health.

On June 23-24, Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired the he 14th BRICS Summit and High-level Dialogue on Global Development in Beijing via video link and delivered important remarks, which marked the climax of the BRICS China Year.

The summit has started a new journey of BRICS cooperation. Our world today is living through accelerating changes unseen in a century and continued spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They confront humanity with unprecedented challenges.

Some countries have politicized and marginalized the development issue, built "a small yard with high fences," imposed maximum sanctions, and stoked division and confrontation.

At the same time, people in all countries are more keen about pursuing peace, development and cooperation, emerging markets and developing countries are more resolved to seek strength through unity, and the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is bringing more opportunities to countries around the world.

Standing at the crossroads of history, the success of the 14th BRICS Summit is a milestone of summarizing the past and ushering in the future.

Under the chairmanship and leadership of President Xi Jinping, leaders of the five countries held in-depth exchange of views on BRICS cooperation on the theme of “Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development”.

President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech and put forward a four-point proposal, emphasizing the need to uphold solidarity, cooperation to boost development, the pioneering spirit and innovation, openness and inclusiveness, and jointly contribute wisdom and ideas to the high-quality development of BRICS cooperation, which resonated strongly with all parties.

The meeting passed the Beijing Declaration of the 14th BRICS Summit, which demonstrated the BRICS countries' commitment to major global international and regional issues such as multilateralism, international fairness and justice, cooperation on fight against the pandemic, and working for development, which put forward the BRICS propositions to maintain world peace.

The declarations specifically stated the need to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue through peaceful and diplomatic means in accordance with the international law.

These efforts have deepened the strategic partnership of the BRICS countries, enhanced the influence of the BRICS countries, and ushered in bright future of BRICS.

The summit has started a new phase in the "BRICS Plus" cooperation model. BRICS countries do not gather to form a closed club or an exclusive circle, but to support each other as a big family and as partners for win-win cooperation.

"BRICS Plus" cooperation has deepened and expanded, setting a prime example of South-South cooperation and seeking strength through unity among emerging markets and developing countries.

As the BRICS chair for this year, China actively supports the BRICS in starting the membership expansion process and expanding the “BRICS Plus” cooperation.

In the first half of the year, the "BRICS Plus" activities attracted more than 50 non-BRICS countries to participate. The High-level Dialogue on Global Development invited 13 important emerging markets and developing countries other than the 5 BRICS countries.

These show that the BRICS' global influence continues to enhance.

President Xi Jinping stressed the need to jointly foster a new era of global development featuring benefits for all, balance, coordination, inclusiveness, win-win cooperation and common prosperity.

President Xi Jinping also announced important measures of China to implement the Global Development Initiative, including upgrading the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund to a Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, increasing input to the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund, setting up a global development promotion center and a global knowledge network for development, and the release of the "Global Development Report", etc.

China will take pragmatic steps to mobilize resources for development. The Chair’s Statement and the list of outcomes based on the Global Development Initiative were issued after the Dialogue. They are fully outlined the participants’ political consensus on global development.

The holding of High-level Dialogue on Global Development marks the beginning of the global development initiative to take root. It is of great significance in strengthening BRICS mechanism building, enhancing solidarity and cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries, and promoting the international community to jointly address the challenges facing development issues.

Iran is major country in the Middle East and an important member of developing countries, with vital international influence.

In recent years, China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership has developed in depth, political mutual trust between the two sides has been continuously consolidated, and cooperation in various fields has been steadily advanced.

China attaches great importance to China-Iran relations, and is willing to continue to firmly support each other with Iran on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns in the spirit of comprehensive strategic partnership.

As the rotating chair of BRICS, President Xi Jinping invited Iranian President Raisi to attend this High-level Dialogue on Global Development.

Focusing on the theme Foster a Global Development Partnership for the New Era to Jointly Implement the development program”, Iran and other important emerging countries and developing countries had in-depth discussions on topics such as accelerating the recovery of the world economy, deepening pragmatic cooperation, implementing global development initiatives, and building a new era of global development partnership.

They discussed ways to promote global development and practical cooperation, claiming a strong voice on common development and prosperity.

The BRICS countries are an important symbol of the rise of developing countries.

The BRICS cooperation has gone through 16 years and has become a model of solidarity and cooperation among emerging market countries and developing countries.

In recent years, the world economy still has been facing strong headwinds on its path toward recovery. The gap between the Global North and the Global South in terms of development has widened.

The international development cooperation lacks momentum, development issues are increasingly marginalized in the international agenda, and materializing the development is difficult.

BRICS countries should strengthen solidarity, carry forward the BRICS spirit, consolidate strategic partnership and jointly respond to various challenges so that BRICS cooperation can reach a new level and play a bigger role in international affairs.

The emerging markets and developing countries must make the right decision and take responsible actions.

What we do will have a significant impact on the world. China hopes to work with all parties to ensure the sound implementation of the outcomes and to give new impetus to speed up the development.

Let us stay united, pool strength and forge ahead to build a community with a shared future for mankind and jointly create a bright future for humanity.
